An average boat may have more than a dozen various pumps. For instance, when somebody opens a faucet, a pressure switch senses the drop of pressure in the line and activates the freshwater pump. When the faucet is closed again, the pressure rises, and the switch reacts by stopping the pump. Another example is a bilge pump that perfectly works in tandem with a float switch and an alarm system; when the water level gets high, the pump starts working, and you know that thanks to an alarm.
