Icom America Marine Radios & Communication
Icom America was established in 1979 as part of Icom Incorporated that has been known as a leader in designing, engineering, and manufacturing advanced and compact solid-state radio equipment for the amateur radio (also known as ham radio) industry since 1954. Over the years, the company has innovated new solutions that deliver reliable performance and provide users with many hi-tech features. Today, the company offers a huge range of products for not only the ham radio market, but also marine, avionics, and land mobile ones.
The company is known for its innovations all around the globe. Since its inception, it has developed a great number of new products including the IC-280, the industry-first radio that was released in 1978 and built to incorporate a CPU model with a detachable front panel, and IC-PCR-1000 “Blackbox”, the world’s first 100% Windows controlled receiver introduced in 1997. Icom has never stopped setting high standards for the industry and expanding its lineup. Thus, in 2007, it launched the IC-M34, the first floating VHF marine handheld radio.
The same year, the first Icom radio with GPS capabilities and the IC-7000 HF + 6M super-transceiver were released. The latter can be easily used as both mobile and base station. This Icom transceiver features a digital voice recorder that makes portable contesting a breeze and Direct Digital Synthersizer Circuit that aims to significantly improve C/N radio for clean and clear transmit signal in all bands. The Icom lineup of communications receivers is constantly expanded. Thus, it has recently adopted the IC-R8500. This Icom scanner brings super wide band and all mode coverage, while maintaining a constant receive sensitivity. In fact, it’s not simply a scanner, this product is a professional communications receiver with various features like computer control, high speed scanning, etc.
