Many modern boats have quite a number of hatches used for ventilation, inspection, easy access to various assemblies, and other purposes. Quite often, these hatches need to stay partly or fully open, which is hardly possible without a reliable mechanism making them stay in a fixed position. It may come in the form of various lifts or gas springs selected depending on the cover's weight and personal preferences.
