Boat Starters

An electric starter is a great invention allowing you to start the piston engine with the touch of a button, or by turning a key. It's convenient and easy, however, the battery and starter itself have to always be in good shape. Gradually, both of them tend to deteriorate, and if the battery's charge and voltage can be easily measured, the starter's condition is not so easy to evaluate. Essentially, it's an electric motor having a rotor, brushes, drive system, and some other mechanisms that may need replacement over time. If you've heard strange grinding or buzzing noises while trying to start the engine, never ignore them and check the starter as soon as possible.

Another option that doesn't require a battery is a good old manual starter. Today, it's still a perfect solution for smaller tiller boats. Typically, their motors don't develop high compression you would need to overcome by pulling a rope, but truth be told, this method can be challenging for older people. Some boaters prefer having both kinds of starters on the same vessel, but it may require some engine modifications. Whichever starting system you have onboard, keep it in good working condition, and everything you need for that is available in our boat starters inventory.
