Cleats are plain components boaters don't give much thought to, but they are what actually prevents your boat from drifting away. Stainless steel remains a favorite material for cleats, simply because it is robust, durable, and looks great. The choice of material depends on how strong you need your cleats to be, your budget, and aesthetic considerations. The size of cleat depends on the size of line, which in turn has to correspond with the dimensions of the boat. Take into account such things as additional lines you may need to use in the future.
