Founded more than 115 years ago, Sherwood is currently known as the leading manufacturer of engine cooling pumps and related components. Its history started when two friends (William Sherwood and David Buick) ran a copper brass plumbing business. Later on, they parted ways and Sherwood grew his business into a foundry and machine shop. In the early '20s, Chris-Craft, a renowned brand with a prominent heritage, incorporated the company's experience in plumbing, which resulted in the first Sherwood sea water pumps built especially for marine inboard engines.

During WWII, it provided the U.S. Navy with cooling pumps for marine engines. It also supplied pumps to Caterpillar, Buda, and Cummins marine engines. Thanks to its strong relationships with OMC, Chrysler Marine, Chris-Craft, and other big names, the company kept pace with the ever-evolving Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler engines. In the 1970s, it continued to focus on developing and building pumps and related products. While starting small, it has grown into a successful business and is currently a top choice among the most popular marine engine manufacturers.
