Boat Shaft & Propeller Anodes
Galvanic corrosion is a serious issue that threatens virtually any vessel that has metal parts. It may affect hull constructions, drivetrain parts, steering components, etc., even if they are made of stainless steel, brass, or other materials known for their corrosion resistance. Actually, galvanic corrosion is an electrochemical reaction that occurs between two or several different metals covered with electrolyte, i.e. fresh or salt water acting as a conductive environment. In order to save valuable parts, it's recommended to add another metal, less noble than those you need to protect.
Sacrificial anodes are made of such metals and are meant to save other components from galvanic corrosion. In most cases, the anodes are manufactured from zinc, aluminum, or magnesium and shaped to provide reliable contact with the parts they protect. The choice of material is crucial to ensure adequate yet long-lasting protection, and it depends on the type of water (salt of fresh). There are barrel and donut anodes for shafts, tapered models for propellers, special anodes for bearing carriers, and other types of anodes designed specifically for certain boat engine makes and models. A large assortment of boat shaft & propeller anodes is available in our online store.
