Boat Rubber & Trim Tab Anodes

It's commonly known that virtually any metal immersed in water will deteriorate soon or late. This process goes quicker in seawater, as salt turns it into a kind of electrolyte in which two different metals form a galvanic cell. Depending on their nobility, one metal becomes an anode, another one works as a cathode, and even bronze or stainless steel can corrode in such conditions. If you want to protect the metal parts of your boat, it's recommended that you attach another piece of metal, less noble than those requiring protection. This measure is called cathodic protection, and it's proved to be rather effective.

The rudder and trim tabs belong to those components whose lifespan can be greatly prolonged thanks to cathodic protection. In order to shield these parts, you will need boat rudder & trim tab anodes, and you can choose them on our virtual shelves. They are bolted on each side of the rudder and on the top side of the trim tab. The sizes of anodes depend on the dimensions of the protected parts, while the anode material is usually selected depending on the water (fresh, brackish, or salt). The most universal material providing adequate protection in any environment is aluminum, while zinc and magnesium anodes are more preferable in salt and fresh water, respectively.
