If you want your boat's propeller to run well and last long, the parts responsible for keeping it in place should never be ignored. Depending on the design of the assembly, different kinds of washers, nuts, spacers, screws, and other components may be used. A couple of other crucial aspects worth paying attention to are the choice of material and the proper order of nuts on the driveshaft. Although many consider stainless steel as the finest and strongest material, it can be less preferable than brass, because of the effect known in metallurgy as "galling" that negatively affects the thread connection and makes the prop nut much harder to remove. As for the order of nuts, if you use a thick and thin nut, many trustworthy organizations recommend installing a half-height nut first, then a thicker, full-height one.
