MotorGuide was established to provide fishermen with a trolling motor that works for them. Today, the company is one of the favorite brands for avid anglers as well as those who have a strong wish to be. The history of the company began in the early 1960s, when G.H. Harris came up with the idea of creating an electric motor that would be able to move a boat along at fishing speed.
Although the industry offered electric motors for use on fishing boats, Harris found them to be awkward for using as they had to be turned and steered by hand. With a strong wish to have the product that could be operated by foot, he designed the system with a spring-loaded direction control. Built with a foot pedal, that system allowed for foot-controlled operation. Herschede Hall Clock Co. in Starkville stuck a deal with the creator to build this new design called the Guide-Rite.
Later Guide-Rite was renamed MotorGuide. Since that time, the engineers at the company have continued to improve and upgrade their products in order to meet the ever-growing needs and requirements of the industry.
