Boat Intake Systems

Just like your car or truck, your boat is driven by an internal combustion engine. Either gasoline or diesel, it requires a specific amount of clean and cold air for each combustion cycle to run efficiently and safely. To supply the motor with the right air is the job of your intake system. On its way to the engine, air gets cleaned, passing through a wet or dry filter located inside the air intake system, and cooled if it has been previously compressed by a supercharger or turbocharger given that your boat is equipped with such a power add-on.
In addition to cleaning air, an intake system is typically built to perform another essential task. It is designed and engineered the way that allows for grabbing air as far away from the engine as possible, which makes a lot of difference in your vehicle's performance. The reason is the temperature of air surrounding your motor. It gets hot very quickly warmed up by the engine when the latter is running, resulting in a reduced amount of oxygen per volume. If the engine sucks that air, it gets less oxygen during an intake stroke, which, in turn, will negatively affect its horsepower.
