Established back in the 1920s, Cole Hersee is a company that manufactures switches, solenoids, relays, battery isolators, and various electrical connectors. In 2010, the brand was acquired by Littelfuse, another American company that also specializes in electrics and is headquartered in Chicago. In general, most Cole Hersee switches and solenoids are designed for heavy-duty on-road vehicles, but many of these products feature high levels of protection and meet specific requirements, which allows for using them on vessels too.
Cole Hersee solenoids and relays can be used to switch various electrical circuits remotely. The company offers different kinds of these devices including solid state relays, plug-in relays, high-current relays, and so on. The last category includes both continuous and intermittent duty series dividing into single- and double-pole switches (SPST and DPST). Working with direct current of 6, 12, 24, or 36V, some of these solenoids can handle loads up to 200 A. They have a steel housing, yet optional PVC coating and potted coils are available in order to resist harsh environment and vibration.
A Cole Hersee battery isolator enables you to charge two batteries with the help of one alternator. Having an auxiliary battery is convenient for powering sound systems, computer equipment, refrigeration, and so on, while the main battery is responsible for starting the engine. An isolator will help you always keep both of these batteries full of charge and reduce the load on the charging system. Two kinds of isolators are offered, solenoid- and diode-based ones. The former include only two 16V models differing in power (85 and 200 A), while the latter incorporate up to ten models which vary not only in power but also in the type of an alternator they are meant to work with. If there are troubles with starting the motor caused by a faulty ignition switch, you can choose a replacement from Cole Hersee ignition switches.
