The stormglass mounts to the wood and brass plaque that can stand free or be wall-mounted. The wood and brass legend shows the five most common formations. The Weems Stormglass is a mysterious weather predictor that is sure to intrigue. Stormglass instruments have been in use since the 1750s. Admiral Fitzroy, the famous sailor and meteorologist, mounted an instrument similar to stormglass on the mast of HMS Beagle as a storm warning instrument during his historic voyage with Darwin in the 1830s. The premise of the Weems Stormglass is that changing weather affects the solubility of the mixture of chemicals in the sealed glass tube. Some believe that the changes in crystal structures have to do with the electromagnetic changes caused by weather and sun storms.

Weems & Plath Two-Year Warranty

Your Weems & Plath product is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for two (2) years from the date of original purchase. Any defect caused by misuse, accident, tampering, or negligence of the user is not covered by this warranty. Caution: If your product is battery operated, movement damage caused by battery leakage is not covered under this warranty. A clock movement continues to pull voltage from the battery until the battery dies. Leaving a dead battery in place causes the battery to leak acid, which destroys the movement. For this reason, it is important to replace the battery once a year, even if the battery is not dead at the time of replacement. If the instrument is not in use, remove the battery to reduce the possibility of costly movement damage. Caution: The finish on brass or chrome instruments is not covered under warranty unless specifically noted (i.e. Endurance Collections). Fingerprints should be cleaned off immediately, and instruments should be wiped regularly with a soft cloth to keep the finish from pitting. To prolong the life of your instrument on a boat, Weems & Plath recommends the use of solar fan vents and removal from the boat when not in use to avoid the harsh marine environment. Buyer’s exclusive remedy in the event of a defect or nonconformity in the products is limited, at the option of seller, to the return of the product for repayment of the price or the repair of the product and replacement of the non-conforming or defective goods or parts. Weems & Plath shall not be liable for any indirect, special, exemplary, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of a defect or nonconformity in the product. The implied warranty of the merchantability and the implied warranty of fitness are excluded. There are no warranties which extend beyond the description on the face of this warranty.
