Wakeboarding is an engaging extreme water sport that implies riding a surf-like board and holding a rope, while being pulled by a motorboat. Experienced wakeboard riders practice and perform a variety of tricks, including rolling, flipping, jumping over 20 feet high, 360, grabbing the tail, and other spectacular figures. As with other extreme sports, the equipment is essential to both top performance and safety, and one of the most crucial pieces of gear is the rope. Many people think that in wakeboarding you use the same type of rope as in water ski. Nothing could be more wrong, as the two sports have different requisites and requirements.
In water ski, the rope needs to be elastic to allow skiers to make the best use of stretch and perform their tricks. On the contrary, wakeboard ropes are not stretchy at all: the lesser the stretch, the greater the control on the pull and the responsiveness of the rope when performing acrobatics. When choosing the most appropriate rope, you should consider the material, length, and handle, as well as your level of experience. For example, Poly-e ropes have a small stretch rate that absorbs the pulls, hence, they are especially suitable for beginners.
